About SCGN

The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) is a registered not-for-profit organization committed to the development of corporate governance in Africa. We are the foremost role player dedicated to the development and promotion of corporate governance best practices in Nigeria and across the continent.

We are committed to promoting good corporate governance and ethical corporate culture, through our advocacy and advisory services, training programs and events, research, resources, and a vibrant member network of individuals and corporate organizations.

Our Story

The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria was founded by Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN. It was incorporated in March 2005 but commenced active operation in 2009. At the time of launch, it was a wholly unique organization. Since its inception, the Society has focused on activities aimed at developing and promoting accountability, transparency, and ethics in the Nigerian business environment and across Africa.

The society has since grown to become a reference for the articulation, advocacy, and administration of global corporate governance standards for Nigeria. We have worked with regulators such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria Stock Exchange, Nigeria Communications Commission, and a lot of others supported by International Finance Corporation, the World Bank, and institutions like The Lagos Business School.

Through these partnerships and collaborations, the Society has trained over 20,000 directors, senior executives, and management through our thought leadership training, programs, and seminars.

Today, SCGN is promoting proper board structure, composition, and compliance, as well as creating corporate governance awareness in a rapidly changing world – through our board evaluations, board enhancement programs, advocacy, advisory, knowledge building, publications, events, and a diverse member network. We are undertaking research, utilizing insights and data to establish an ethical corporate culture in Nigeria, leading to enhanced financial viability and sustainability of organizations to build national progress and prosperity.

We invite you to join our mission through our programs, events, membership, and partner networks to continue to develop global corporate governance standards and best practices in Nigeria.
