Industry experts, board leaders, and governance professionals are invited to nominate outstanding individuals and institutions, as nominations officially opened on July 7th, 2025 for the Corporate Governance Awards. Organised by the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN), the Corporate Governance Awards 2025 forms part of the Society’s 20th Anniversary celebrations and will spotlight those setting new benchmarks in ethical leadership, accountability, and boardroom excellence.
More than just a recognition platform, the Awards represent a national call to honor those leading with integrity in an era defined by complexity. The 2025 Awards are dedicated to Professor Fabian Ajogwu, OFR, SAN, Founder of the Society, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to corporate governance reform in Nigeria. His decades-long commitment to transparency, board stewardship, and institutional integrity continues to shape the country’s governance architecture.
Nominations are open now to the public via www.awards.corpgovnigeria.org and will close on August 4th, 2025.
In line with SCGN’s commitment to global best practices, the Awards will be delivered in partnership with Ernst & Young (EY) and the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) to ensure a rigorous, transparent, and impactful process.
Award Categories
The Corporate Governance Awards 2025 will serve as a platform to showcase best-in-class leadership, highlighting those who embody the principles of sound governance not just in policy, but in practice. The award categories for institutions will span key pillars of corporate governance, including board leadership and composition, oversight of executive assessment and remuneration, transparent reporting practices, and robust internal controls. Institutions demonstrating a strong commitment to shareholder rights, ethical disclosures, diversity and inclusion, ESG strategy, and sustainable value creation will be recognised for their efforts in setting governance standards that go beyond compliance.
In the individual category, nominations are open to those in leadership positions or with significant influence on governance practices. Eligible candidates must have a demonstrated track record of integrity, accountability, and transparency, and their leadership should reflect a personal commitment to advancing ethical and effective governance across the corporate landscape.
A distinguished committee independent of the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria will guide the selection process, to ensure transparency and fairness.
